How to File an RTI Request

Prepare your application
Write your application in Hindi or English, clearly specifying the information you seek. Vague or over-broad requests may be refused.

Pay the application fee
Application fee of ₹10 (ten rupees) payable by cash, demand draft, banker's cheque, or Indian Postal Order in favour of the CPIO.
3
Submit to the CPIO
Send the application by post or deliver in person to the CPIO, IIIT Agartala (c/o NIT Agartala), Barjala, Jirania, Tripura (W) – 799046.

Receive information
Information will be provided within 30 days of receipt of the application (48 hours for information relating to life or liberty).
5
First Appeal (if needed)
If dissatisfied, file a first appeal with the First Appellate Authority within 30 days of receiving the reply (or its due date).

Second Appeal / Complaint
If still dissatisfied, file a second appeal or complaint with the Central Information Commission (CIC) at cic.gov.in.

Online RTI
File Online: RTI requests can be filed online through the RTI Online Portal at rtionline.gov.in. Online payment accepted via net banking, credit / debit card, or UPI.
